This beautiful town is situated on several islands among lakes and more islands, it was a pleasure to see it for the first time in the bright sunlight, and it was lovely to walk around and discover it all through the day.
We met our host Jessica at the harbour close to the market square, went home with her, and left again for a spaa (Maikel and her) and a stroll (me).
The local delicacies bread pie with fishes inside, and small fried fishes were tasty, and sitting by the lake on a terrace was an added pleasure.
Savonlinna is crowded this week - well, finnish would call it so - because of the opera festival. We hadn`t even tried to get any tickets, they are always sold out weeks before and sooo expensive. But our nice host is a journalist, and a few phone calls later we were all three of us proud owners of tickets for the evening dress rehearsal in the spectacular surroundings of the castle.
Nabucco done by the Teatro Communale de Bologna was the most wonderful end to a wonderful day! We enjoyed every second of it!
